Description

Number bonds are a simple maths concepts that show how numbers can be broken up or combined to make other numbers. They are used to help children understand the relationships between numbers and develop mental math skills.

By learning number bonds, children can quickly recall basic addition and subtraction skills, making it easier for them to solve problems and build a strong foundation for more complex math concepts later on.

How to Wonder & Bloom

Place the white Perspex inserts into the corresponding places (use prestik to keep them steady while completing this activity)

Choose a number you are practicing, for example, the number 6. Write it in the big circle on top. the number 6 is made up of many different combinations. Begin with the first combination: 0 and 6. Write a 0 in the first circle and a 6 in the other circle. Now draw the representation of each number: 0 dots in the first block and 6 dots in the other.

Now write your sum: 0 + 6 = 6.
Complete this with all combinations and then choose a new number to practice.

HINT: you can remove the white Perspex blocks and use counters instead of drawing your dots – use pom poms, beans, playdough balls etc.
