Description
CVC words are simple three-letter words that are made up of a consonant, a vowel and a consonant, for example ‘cat.’
If you break a CVC word up into sounds, you will hear three distinct phonemes (sounds). Learning CVC words is a key phonics skill that supports children’s reading, writing, and rhyming of three-phoneme words. These words help children begin their reading journey by teaching them the sounds of individual letters, digraphs, or trigraphs, and then blending those sounds together to form a complete word
By teaching CVC words and focusing on the consistent pattern of a consonant sound, followed by a vowel sound, and ending with another consonant sound, children can begin to recognize and blend sounds together.
How to Wonder & Bloom
Practise saying the letters down the middle of the board – the vowels. A,E,I,O,U with the corresponding sounds they make a,e,i,o,u.
Spread out your alphabet wooden tiles and build different words spelling them out and saying them as you place the letters into the slots. Example: place the letter ‘c’ and the letter ‘t’ on either side of the vowel ‘a’ which will then read ‘cat’
Try asking an adult write words on a piece of paper and then build the words that are written down. Spelling the words out that you have built is important while using this Bloom Board!
